The Horrifying Truth About Avocados

by Organic Health

How are avocados aiding the drug cartel in Mexico? This horrifying fact may surprise you!

Avocados are one of the best foods you can eat. They are packed full of good fats, vitamins, even cancer-fighting nutrients. Some people even have said they are a “perfect food.” But is it too good to be true?

Yes, avocados do have a dark side.

The avocado tree is native to Mexico and Central America which means those regions produce most of the world’s supply. In Mexico, avocados are referred to as oro verde which translates as green gold. They call it green gold because it brings more cash than any other crop, even marijuana.

Well, the drug cartel in Mexico noticed this so of course took over the avocado sector. They now control everything from production to distributions. Now farmers had to deal with the constant torture of this cartel. They always get what they want by acts of violence and bribes. Even some government people are being controlled by them. The cartel gains information about the farmers and how much they are making by bribes to the government. This is so they know exactly how much money to ask for from the farmers.

The horrifying truth is that more than 80 percent of their products are being shipped to the United States. So next time you start to buy an avocado think about this. We are helping fuel this problem. The only way we could help stop this is to buy from the US and not Mexico.

  1. So if we only buy the US avocados, then the Mexican sales go down and the farmer has even less cash (but probably still has to pay the Cartels the bribes). What we need to do is to stop the Cartels period!
Don't get me wrong, I am a huge advocate of shopping locally but I think that controlling the avocados is just a teeny drop in the bucket and the Cartels will just move on to others extortion measures when this dries up, leaving a bunch of farmers without any income.
