According to recent studies, the extract of the graviola fruit (also known as guyabano or soursop) can kill the malignant cells of 12 different types of cancer. The studies have found out that the fruit extract can kill the cancer cells of colon, cervical, prostate, lung, ovarian, breast, liver and pancreatic cancer, which is a big discovery and could shake up things in cancer treatment.
The graviola fruit has showed promising results when used against pancreatic cancer. It significantly reduced the tumorigenicity and changed the metabolism of the pancreatic tumor cells, which was discovered by a pathologist from the University of Nebraska. Another lab study proved that graviola extract is 10 000 times more powerful in eliminating colon cancer cells than Adriamycin, a standard chemotherapy drug. Compared to chemotherapy, the graviola can kills cancer cells only, without harming the healthy ones.
In regards to cervical cancer, the graviola fruit has shown great potential. Yet another study showed that it can also stop the growth of breast cancer cells. According to data from the study, the dietary GFE triggered significant growth inhibition of MDA-MB-468 cells in vitro and in vivo studies through a mechanism that engages the EGFR/ERK signaling pathway, suggesting that GFE might have a protective impact for women against EGFR- over-expressing BC.
And the anti-cancer effects of graviola don’t stop there – soursop has shown that it can defeat cervical cancer as well, and more studies suggest that the fruit can fight even more types of cancer.
The secret of the fruit lies in the presence of acetogenins, substances that can inhibit the NADH oxidase of the cancer cells plasma membranes and stop cancer growth. Graviola also contains phytochemicals such as friedelin, anonaine, quercetin, xylopine, isolaureline, anomurine, kaempferol, annonamine, and asimilobine.
