The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped organ located in the base of your neck. To be more precise, it is located just bellow the larynx, in the front of the neck on both sides of the trachea. It surrounds the trachea from the front and consists of two lobes forming two wings joined to each other by intermediate part-isthmus.

The thyroid gland uses iodine in order to release thyroid hormones. The role of the hormones is to promote growth, regulate metabolism and regulate vital body functions.

The work of the thyroid gland is influenced by many factors which in the end may trigger numerous health issues. Sadly, in our contry the diseases of the thyroid is close to the epidemic and women are most affected.

However, you don’t have to worry since we are able to reduce the risk of developing complications by minimizing our exposure to toxic compounds. These following seven compounds are common in out homes and we use them regularly.

Pesticides
According to one research, about 60% of the pesticides used on a daily basis can affect the thyroid’s production of hormones. It has been confirmed that the use of pesticides and weed killers reduce thyroid function and increase resistance to weight loss.

Plastic
We are all well aware of the fact that plastic is very harmful for our overall health, so the thyroid gland is not an exception. Plastic bottles release antimony, a chemical which is just one problem. The University of Copenhagen conducted a study which discovered that the levels of antimony found in juices in plastic bottles were 2.5% increased than the level considered as safe. Moreover, BPA and phthalates significantly reduce the function of the thyroid as well.

Bromine
Bromine is very poisonous for the thyroid gland, and the worst part is that it can be found in everything from pool cleaners to some forms of meals. Even healthy patients can usually have increased levels of this substance in their bodies.

Perchlorate
Perchlorate is actually a waste product produced by rockets and jets fuel. CDC claims that we are all exposed to this harmful influence since it can be found in the water used for our fruits and vegetables, as well as in our drinking water.

Soybeans
Soy protein was discovered to neutralize thyroid peroxide. They contain phytoestrogens, which disrupt the function of this gland as they block the secretion of thyroid hormone, and the power of the body to use iodine.

Halogens
Halogens can prevent the proper function of the thyroid gland since they contain chloride and fluorine. Iodine transportation gets interrupted due to over exposure to halogens. They are mostly absorbed through water, meals and even from the environment.

Fluoride
In order to deal with hyperthyroidism, in the first half of the 20th century, people have been prescribed fluoride in small proportions of 2-5 mg on a daily basis over a period of a month. Moreover, 70 % of the water supply in U.S. contains fluoride, which helps prevent dental cavities.
