Lung cancer is the number one cause of cancer-related deaths among both men and women, claiming the lives of 1.4 million people every year. Additionally, it threatens 1.6 million new people annually worldwide.
What is Lung Cancer?
Lung cancer, also known as pulmonary carcinoma, is characterized by the uncontrolled growth of cancerous cells in your lung tissues. Your lungs are an essential component of your respiratory system. Cases of lung cancer differ based on the type of cell in which the cancer starts. Non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), which typically starts on the outer part of the lung, is the most common kind and is found in 85% of people diagnosed with lung cancer.
Signs and Symptoms
Unfortunately, it’s difficult to catch lung cancer in its early stages as most people don’t have symptoms until the cancer has already spread. Some of the signs of lung cancer include:
- Persistent cough that worsens over time
- Coughing up blood
- Chest pain
- Weight loss and loss of appetite
- Shortness of breath
- Feeling tired or weak
- Repeatedly contracting infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia
There are various types of treatment for lung cancer, chemotherapy being one of them. But recent studies have discovered that a certain fruit may be even more effective in preventing the spread of cancer cells than the use of drugs.
What is Noni?
Noni, also referred to as “Indian mulberry” or “hog apple”, is a type of fruit that grows on trees in the Pacific Islands, Southeast Asia, Australia, and India. Historically, it’s been applied topically to treat joint pain and skin disorders. It’s also been used to make red or yellow clothing dye.
This tropical fruit is still used today for its medicinal properties. Noni can be consumed orally to treat the following conditions:
- Painful urination
- High blood pressure
- and many others
Noni has been proven to be extremely good for our bodies and the functioning of our cells. This exotic fruit comes with many health benefits:
- Is an effective anti-oxidant
- Has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties
- Rich in fatty acids, which are essential for healthy skin and hair
- Boosts immune system
- Improves digestion
- Improves the body’s ability to make use of nutrients
- Rich source of potassium
In 2001, a study found that noni juice may have tumor-fighting properties. Scientists tested the fruit in mice that were implanted with lung cancer. They observed that noni juice slowed the transformation of normal cells to cancer cells and was able to increase the survival of these mice by stimulating their immune system.
Considering an 8-week chemotherapy treatment can cost up to $30, 000, noni leaf extract may be a great saver of lives and wallets.
