Earth Day

Every year, the world celebrates Earth Day also known as International Mother Earth Day. This day is celebrated on April 22nd of each year. The first Earth Day took place in 1970. More than 20 million people participated that year. Now, 175 countries and over 500 million people celebrate Earth Day! Earth Day was created by United States Senator, Gaylord Nelson and Denis Hayes. Denis Hayes studied at Stanford University. Eventually, he dropped out to become an environmental advocate. People who are really commited to help the earth, celebrate Earth week. Earth week is an entire week focused on doing environmental activities. In honor of Earth day they made a anthem:

Joyful Joyful we adore our earth in all its wonderment

Simple gifts of nature that all join into a paradise

Now we must resolve to protect her

Show her our love throughout all time

With our gentle hand and touch

We make our home a newborn world

Now we must resolve to protect her

Show her our love throughout all time

With our gentle hand and touch

We make our home a newborn world
