Once upon a time, I was healthy; at least I thought I was.

Sure, I lacked enough energy to get me through the day, but with all the commercials on TV touting energy drinks for America’s tired masses, I always assumed I wasn’t the only one suffering. And sure, everyone in my family dreaded the coming cold and flu season, but again, I thought come January everyone develops some degree of germophobia.

At least, that’s what I thought until I heard some disturbing new information about the effects of sugar. According to several experts, sugar is the thing that is making so many Americans fat and sick. The more I thought about it the more this made sense to me — a lot of sense. One in seven Americans has metabolic syndrome. One in three Americans is obese. The rate of diabetes is skyrocketing and cardiovascular disease is America’s number one killer.

According to this theory, all of these maladies and more can be traced back to one large toxic presence in our diet… sugar.


A Bright Idea

I took all of this newfound knowledge and formulated an idea. I wanted to see how hard it would be to have our family — me, my husband, and our two children (ages 6 and 11) — spend an entire year eating foods that contained no added sugar. We’d cut out anything with an added sweetener, be it table sugar, honey, molasses, maple syrup, agave or fruit juice. We also excluded anything made with fake sugar or sugar alcohols. Unless the sweetness was attached to its original source (e.g., a piece of fruit), we didn’t eat it.

The rat addiction studies also seem to validate the main features of the War on Drugs. First is interdiction: prevent the rats from getting a taste of drugs to begin with. Second is “education” – conditioning the rats into not pressing the lever in the first place. Third is punishment: make the consequences of taking drugs so scary and unpleasant that the rats will overcome their desire to press the lever. You see, some rats just have a stronger moral fiber than others. For those with a strong moral fiber, education suffices. The weak ones need to be deterred with punishments.


All of these features of the drug war are forms of control, and therefore sit comfortably within the broader narrative of technological civilization: the domination of nature, the rising above the primitive state, conquering animal desire with the mind and the base impulses with morality, and so forth. That is, perhaps, why Bruce Alexander’s devastating challenge to the caged rat experiments was ignored and suppressed for so many years. I always say that where there is anger, hate, revenge, bitterness, there is also a lot of pain underneath, and I really believe that to be true. A person who is blissful and content with herself and the world around, no matter how many mean people she will encounter and no matter how much pain those people may cause her to feel, she will always respond with love, kindness and compassion instead of anger, hate and resentment. Loving people know that an eye for an eye would only leave the whole world blind, like Gandhi said it, and they choose to do no harm to the world around them.

I know it’s a lot easier to give back exactly what you receive, and in this case, a lot of negativity, but we don’t want to do what’s easier, but rather what is best for our health, our well being and that of those around us. I know that people can be really mean sometimes, and that they can do horrible things to those they come in contact with, to those they love and care about, but I also believe that people can change, and this is why it’s so important to give up on your personal history that you might have had with those people, and allow them to show you just that.

If you keep an inner record of what this/that person did to you, and what they said to you, and how they made you feel, how much pain they may have caused you, etc. , every time you will come into contact with them, you will be reminded of all those things, and you will never be able to forgive and forget, nor to allow them to show you how sorry they are for what happened. No matter if they did all of those things on purpose or not, by holding on to grudge, anger or whatever it is that you are holding on to, you will bring even more pain upon your shoulders.

Public water fluoridation is one of the most controversial topics today. The people who are advocates for water fluoridation, claim that adding this substance to the public water is beneficial to the community’s dental health because it hardens the enamel on teeth protecting it from acid and bacteria, making it easier for people to brush away oral bacteria and prevent tooth decay.

It’s also claimed that research shows that fluoridated water reduces a population’s rate of tooth decay between 40-70%.

However, when it comes to the “protective layer” that’s created by fluoride, studies conducted by Saarland University in Germany (published by Langmuir) shows that the “protective layer” is not actually useful. In fact, it’s 100 times thinner than it was previously believed, and that it’s actually 6 nanometers thick. An everyday activity like chewing food is enough to disintegrate this layer created by fluoride.


Other evidence suggests that countries with and without public fluoridated water, all have declining rates of tooth decay, so is medicating the public really worth it?

There is further evidence suggesting that fluoridated water is more harmful to human health than it is beneficial. Scientists and many health care professionals are calling for more research to be conducted on the matter and for the public to inform themselves.

Fluoride activists always claim that the public has seen a huge decline in tooth decay since the 1950s. (Recently many counties in the US have called for public water fluoridation hoping to better the oral health of low income families in the areas.) What many don’t realize is that this is a empty claim. A quick search on the WHO website shows that countries that do and that do not fluoridate their water have both seen a decline in tooth decay in minors. The U.S. fluoridates two-thirds of their public water and it still has higher rates of tooth decay than countries that do not fluoridate their water (like Belgium, Denmark, Sweden for an example).

People who defend their land and families are called "terrorists" when imperial powers want their resources. In turn, Western rulers call violent coups "duly elected" if they pledge allegiance to the IMF.

 
This situation is creating friction among the world's superpowers not seen since the Cold War. Obama recently expressed concern that "The old order isn’t holding and we’re not quite where we need to be in terms of a new order." Later in the speech he blamed uncooperative nations (read Russia) for standing in the way of the New World Order.

The swastika is a symbol used by of one of the most hated men on Earth, a symbol that represents the slaughter of millions of people and one of the most destructive wars on Earth. But Adolf Hitler was not the first to use this symbol. In fact, it was used as a powerful symbol thousands of years before him, across many cultures and continents.

For the Hindus and Buddhists in India and other Asian countries, the swastika was an important symbol for many thousands of years and, to this day, the symbol can still be seen in abundance - on temples, buses, taxis, and on the cover of books. It was also used in Ancient Greece and can be found in the remains of the ancient city of Troy, which existed 4,000 years ago. The ancient Druids and the Celts also used the symbol, reflected in many artefacts that have been discovered. It was used by Nordic tribes and even early Christians used the Swastika as one of their symbols, including the Teutonic Knights, a German medieval military order, which became a purely religious Catholic Order. But why is this symbol so important and why did Adolf Hitler decide to use it?

The word ‘swastika’ is a Sanskrit word (‘svasktika’) meaning ‘It is’, ‘Well Being’, ‘Good Existence, and ‘Good Luck’. However, it is also known by different names in different countries - like ‘Wan’ in China, ‘Manji’ in Japan, ‘Fylfot’ in England, ‘Hakenkreuz’ in Germany and ‘Tetraskelion’ or ‘Tetragammadion’ in Greece.


A Sanskrit scholar P. R. Sarkar in 1979 said that the deeper meaning of the word is ‘Permanent Victory’. He also said that as any symbol it can have positive and negative meaning depending on how it is drawn. So in Hinduism, the right-hand swastika is a symbol of the God Vishnu and the Sun, while the left-hand swastika is a symbol of Kali and Magic. The double meaning of symbols is common in ancient traditions, like for example the symbol of the pentagram (five pointed star), which is viewed as negative when pointing downwards, and positive when pointing upwards.

Research Shows Synthetic Vitamins In ‘Fortified’ Breakfast Cereals Are Harming Children

Many breakfast cereals and breakfast bars marketed as being “fortified with vitamins” could actually be harming our children, causing damage to organ function and long term immune issues.

Many popular breakfast cereals boast at being “fortified with vitamins and minerals”. However these are merely synthetic imitations of essential nutrients. A new study, undertaken by the Environmental Working Group (EWG), has been looking into the levels of three nutrients in particular and the effect of them being added in synthetic form to many popular foods, namely zinc, niacin (also known as vitamin B3, and vitamin A.

There are well known health risks to diets containing insufficient levels of vitamins and minerals including scurvy, pellagra and rickets. Thankfully in developed nations diets have improved in the most part to ensure better natural vitamin intake.

But excessive intake also causes health issues. According to a recently published analysis of dietary intake data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2003-2006, from food alone 8% of 2 – 8 year old children consume too much niacin, 13% consume too much vitamin A and 45% consume too much zinc.


The research bythe EWG covered 1,556 breakfast cereals and 1,025 snack and energy bars. The vitamin content of vitamin A, zinc and niacin in these highly processed foods were compared to recommended daily values. They discovered that 114 different cereal brands had been fortified with levels of one or more of the vitamin A, zinc or niacin to the extent that levels exceeded the recommended daily amounts for adults by 30%. In addition 27 of the snack and energy bars were found to contain levels 50% higher than the recommended daily amount for adults.
